i often say that pokemon mystery dungeon: explorers of time (mouthful, ik) is my favourite videogame of all time. my copy of the game was given to me by a friend when she gave me her dsi xl (which was mindblowing to me). as a longtime pokemon fan, i was hyped--a pokemon game id never heard of? I GOT TO PLAY AS A POKEMON? DUNGEON-CRAWLING MECHANICS?? i blame this game for my addiction to roguelites and roguelikes.
what you really don't expect going into pmd:eot is the insanely good writing. there is a genuine gem of a story in this game, following the amnesiac player washing up on the shores of a pokemon civilization. you as the player alongside your partner have to unfold the mystery surrounding the strange happenings in the area--including the appearance of strange, randomly generated dungeons full of hostile pokemon. i wont say anything more, you should really play it if you haven't :].
as if PEAK writing wasn't enough, i found the gameplay of the game to be really fun. the whole mystery dungeon style with turn based combat where you actually have to strategize (actual difficulty? in my pokemon game??) is incredibly enjoyable. the final bossfight is difficult, and the payoff after is crazy good. just play it pretty please (´˘ -˘ 人)
(also, holy cow the music is AMAZING. please listen to it... omg...)
